A man, a pig, a pickle, and a beaver. The Beaver Squadron rules the skies!
The final installment in our nutso hazmat Major Beaver series is here. This is the fifth barrel of TN whiskey in the series. All topping the absurdity scales at over 140 proof. This one is actually the tamest of the bunch, clocking in at a tame 140.5 proof.
If you're keeping score on the podcast, this was the first of the Major Beaver barrels we tasted. The sample was labelled 145 proof, but it was bottled at 140.5. Typo? Questionable ABV testing? Or an amazing proof-shape-shifting beast that lost four and a half proof points in a six month period? We'll really never know. But it wasn't hard to tell how awesome the juice was. Dangerously deceptive for its monster strength, the nose opens up with oak, honey, caramel, candied pecans, pipe tobacco, chocolate (Skor Bar?). The palate goes even further on the chocolate and nuts, like dark chocolate covered pecan turtles! The mouthfeel is absolutely nuts, just thoroughly coating the mouth, throat, and chest in a deep warmth. All-in-all just a sublime flavor-bomb of epicly beastly porportions.
All of these big hazmat Major Beavers have a finish the lasts decades. And this one is no exception, with all the spice coming back, wrapped up in the wood and the sweets. But the crazy thing about these barrels is how approachable they are considering the proof. We literally have folks over to the Beast Lair who are not veteran bourbon drinkiners who try Beaver Squadron and can't believe they could ever even handle hazmat hooch, let alone love it!
We hope you've enjoyed the ride with the Major Beaver series. We were incredibly psyched to get our hands on this completely unique run of crazy barrels.
Cheers / The Beasts!
