Yo-ho and our first bottle of Beast Masters Club rum! We've been looking for a rum cask worth of the Beast Masters name, and we tasted far and wide before we discovered a small importer called Holmes Cay. The owner Eric is a kindred spirit and travels all over the Caribbean seeking out small rum distilleries and setting up import for them under his Holmes Cay label.

Eric poured us about a dozen rums from all over the region. But, like any honey barrel, this 11 year rum from Belize stood out by a mile. This one comes from Travellers Distillery in Belmopan, Belize. It's 100% natural, no additives, no coloring, aged in a bourbon cask.

Dark as coconut bark, this was like no other rum we'd ever tasted. Don't get us wrong, we like a pina colada with a dark spiced rum floater as much as the next beast. But this is a completely different animal. It's incredibly deep and rich, with herbal notes mingling deeply with the sweet sugar cane flavors, wild flowers and spices touching the tongue in unexpected places, and massive oak flavor, leather, and tobacco rounding out an unbelievably unique experience. This is our first rum, the only rum we're doing this year, and only 222 bottles and then it's gone.
