It's the Bee's Knees! Every year we give our favorite run of barrels the enviable distinction of our annual "Bee's Knees" award. This gorgeous 14 year from Lucky 7 definitely takes the Bee's Knees prize for 2022. The only problem? There was only one barrel available. So this year's Bee's Knees "run" is a short run - just 131 bottles!
Really well-aged Kentucky bourbon is so hard to find these days, and when you do find it not all bottles are the same. This beauty comes out of the glencairn with some serious pop! We don't have a lot of info on it's heritage, but it's clearly heritage KY goodness, cask strength, and straight out of the barrel. The nose has honey and nuts, some ripe banana, and white chocolate. Then the wood and spices take you for a ride into an old splintered oak chair sitting next to a long extinguished fire.
Ok we're getting a little over the top in our smell associations, but it's a pretty unique nose. Rich and right in the pocket, but also unique. There's some gooey sweet cream going on, brown butter, a tiny hint of something deeper, little pop of black Twizzlers maybe?
The palate goes deep tart cherries. How'd that escape the nose? Anyway massive cherrys with some tongue-piquing pops of spice and wood.
The finish is front-of-the-tongue candy, with those little hints of banana and cherry slowly revealing themselves around the sides of the tongue.
It's a real treat, and the only Bee's Knees barrel of the year. So treat yourself you beautiful beast, you deserve it.
