The run on Four Roses private barrels is getting insane, and we were only able to get two barrels for 2019. Luckily, the two that we did get are stunners. The color on this OESV set it apart immediately as it was 3 shades darker than the other samples. On the nose we got wave after wave of Cashew nuts. Not roasted nuts like “Butter My Nut” (go back to the shop, we still have a few bottles left!) but oily salty cashew nuts, like when you peel back the foil on a can of Planters. The big body matches the nose with serious legs, chewy mouthfeel, and more salty nutty goodness.

Obviously the fact that Four Roses private barrels are bottled at cask strength, un-chill-filtered, and straight from the barrel is the reason they’re some of the most sought-after of our private barrel selections. The finish on this big bad boy lasts all afternoon. Huge oak, even more cashew nuts, rock salt, cocoa, little pops of orange peel. The full blast over 116 proof is magic for this princess, just a huge flavorful gem of a bourbon. It’s got it all.
