Beast Masters Club Live "DUSTY BATTLE!"

Serious whiskey hunters look for certain tell-tale signs.  The old-school tax strip sealing the bottle...  The “⅘ quart” measure instead of “750ml”...  And of course that fine coating of dust that tells them this bottle has been sitting, undiscovered, in the back of that liquor store for a few decades.

We’re talking of course about “Dusties!” Dusties are the true sport of whiskey hunting, setting apart the rookies from the veteran die-hard whiskey aficionados. We’ve been wanting to do a Dusty Battle for some time, but we needed to find the perfect two warriors who would be up to the task.  Meet Josh & Josh…

Josh Feldman, whiskey historian and author of www.cooperedtot.com has been collecting, writing, and all-around obsessing about whiskey for over a decade. He was an early mentor to Steve and Dana as they began the SmokyBeast blog, generously guiding them into the unknown territory of shuttered distilleries, dusty gems, and the decades of history that surround these special whiskies.

Josh Richholt is the co-founder of The Well. Dubbed the “biggest local bar you’ve ever seen”, The Well boasts 200 beers on tap, a tasty whiskey selection. and a mammoth outdoor music venue. We caught Josh sneaking a bottle Jack Daniels into our “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” event. Little did we know it was a 1960’s Jack Daniels (which changed the move from sacrilege to bona fide). It turned out that Josh had come directly to our event from a successful dusty hunt of epic proportions.

Each contender will bring two dusties from his private collection for your consideration. You will vote to decide who shall hold the belt as BMC Dusty Champion.

We’re very excited to be able to share this special event with you.  Don’t miss out!

/Steve & Ben

Beast Masters Club vs Single Cask Nation

Here is your chance to be the judge of an epic showdown as Beast Masters Club squares off against Single Cask Nation in a brown liquor Battle Royale!

Single Cask Nation / Jewish Whisky Company was founded by Joshua Hatton and Jason Johnstone-Yellin. They travel the world in search of unique private barrels which they bottle under their own label. Every year they produce the Whisky Jewbilee, a great festival that features all their favorite distilleries under one roof.  On the eve of this year’s Jewbilee NYC, we’ve invited Single Cask Nation to battle the beasts. Josh and Jason will bring two of their favorite Single Cask Nation bottlings, and your faithful hosts Steve and Ben will bring two of our favorite BMC bottlings.  Your mission will be to vote live for the ultimate private barrel whiskey as we record the event for the BMC podcast!

To help in your quest we have recruited the veteran whiskey guru Robin Robinson as your guide, moderator and guest host. You may know Robin from his years at Compass Box (one of Mrs. Beast’s all-time favorite bottlers), and we’re excited to bring Robin’s immense skill in tasting & barrel picking.  Also Robin will be responsible for making sure that Josh and Steve don’t hit below the belt.

Please join us for this one of a kind event.  Seating is extremely limited (20 guests total), so don’t wait!

WhistlePig Private Barrel with David Pickerell

Beast Masters Club is excited to bring you one of our most anticipated live podcast events with Master Distiller, Dave Pickerell!

Dave is the Master Distiller at WhistlePig, and a true legend in the whiskey business. After graduating from West Point and serving in the army for over a decade, he ran the distillery at Maker’s Mark for fifteen years. Since then he’s been a force in the craft spirits industry, helping brands like Corsair, Hillrock Estate, and WhistlePig.

WhistlePig Old World is an American straight rye whiskey, aged 12 years, and finished in a combination of Madeira, Port, and Sauternes wine casks. We fell in love with the rich spiciness of the Madeira and chose a blend with 80% Madeira, 10% Sauternes, and 10% port.  We'll be explaining the Old World Cask selection process as we taste each individual barrel finish, our custom pick and some WhistlePig 12 and 15 year.
Join us as Dave shares his knowledge and we experience a great night of great rye!

There are two options for attending this event.  You can purchase tickets to the event or buy a bottle of our WhistlePig Private Barrel 12 Year Rye and receive one free ticket to the event.

Beast Masters @ Wheated

Beast Masters @ Wheated

Do you like bourbon and pizza? Then you are going to love Wheated.

Wheated is a sweet little neighborhood spot in Flatbush, Brooklyn. It was created by one of the founding members of Beast Masters Club, David Sheridan. Wheated serves delicious homemade pizza alongside an impressive list of American whiskeys and tastefully chosen single malts.

David will be serving us an assortment of his famous sourdough pizzas and educating on us what makes wheated bourbon special. The "mashbill" of a bourbon is the recipe of grains used in it's distillation. Bourbon must be 51% corn, but it can have much higher corn content, or substitute another grain such as rye or wheat as the second ingredient. We will taste through different mashbills, represented by some tasty private barrel picks and limited release bottles that David has in his collection. You are guaranteed to leave with a belly full of delicious grub and your own opinion on your favorite bourbon mashbill. Maybe, like David, you'll be a wheater freak. There's only one way to find out.

An Evening with Westland @ Norwood Club

Washington State's Westland Distillery has made a huge buzz in the world of American craft distilling. Their single malt whiskies have won a slew of awards and it's no surprise that Rémy Cointreau just paid an undisclosed (but likely ungodly) amount of money to acquire them.

While there are dozens upon dozens of new craft distilleries popping up across the country, we believe that Westland is different. They have sought out incredible local ingredients, from the barley in their malt to the wood in their barrels, and created an impressive line of spirits.

Join us for our next live podcast recording as Chris Riesbeck from Westland shares their unique story and educates us about their range of malt whiskies. We're also happy to announce a beautiful new venue for this event. The Norwood is a stunning private club that will be hosting our gathering in style!

An Evening With Signatory Vintage

An Evening With Signatory Vintage

Signatory Vintage is an independent bottler of single malt whisky. For three decades they have traveled through Scotland hunting for the choicest casks from their favorite distilleries. Those casks are aged in their warehouses and released as limited edition single barrels at the precise age that Signatory thinks they reflect the best characteristics of the malt. The results have been epic. Signatory is by far our favorite "indie" and continues to produce a meticulously curated lineup of stellar cask selections year after year.

Signatory has three collections, each level climbing in proof and price: The 86 Proof Collection, The Un-Chillfiltered Collection, and their crown jewel, the Cask Strength Decanter Collection.  We will be sampling malts from all three collections including an incredible vintage cask strength malt that will be a real treat for the club. We have chosen a mid-range malt from the Un-Chillfiltered Collection that will be available to all our members as this month's Beast Masters selection, and we will also have a small number of Cask Strength Decanter bottles available for those interested in picking up a very premium whisky.

Our guest host will be Tricia Chimento, who represents Signatory here in New York and has over 20 years experience traveling the world exploring fine malts. Tricia will educate us on the in's and out's of independent bottling, different influences in the flavor profile and characteristics of distilleries, and will guide us through what is sure to be an unforgettable tasting across Signatory's impressive 2016 collections.

As usual only 20 tickets will be made available, so purchase your ticket now and don't miss out.
